Summary

Hello all. This is "Midna Confusion" again with my Mesmer Shatter Build. This build is designed to get high damage off of your shatter skills and deals major damage.

Weapon and Skill Details

I take GS and Sword/torch for easy AI output.

 

Ether Feast- This heal is amazing. You have it under a low cooldown and it heals for a decent amount even though with shatter you dont usually have many illusions out at a time. I havent tried Signet of the Ether with this build but I am planning on trying it out soon.

 

Blink- Just downright an amazing skill. You lack in mobility with this build but in Pvp Mobility isn't everything like it is in pve/wvw. Which if you all prefer that then i suggest instead of eagle runes to go with runes of the traveler for the movement speed increase. BUT ANYWHOOO. Blink can be used offensively as well as defensively. You can use it in conjunction with Blurred Frenzy if your illusionary leap is on cooldown or if the game bugs, which it does and you need to get near an enemy for that burst fast. Defensive is pretty much self explanatory. I like to use the blink when i stealth to get further away faster.

 

Mirror Images- pretty self explanatory. You get 2 clones at once for a shatter skill. Also this move breaks stun. so its best to use it in conjunction with Distortion shatter skill against those nasty stunlock players.

 

Decoy- IS AMAZING. Summon a clone and stealth. cant beat that. You are a shatter build so anything that gives extra clones gives extra damage.

 

Mass Invisibility- A very nice lengthy stealth for a handy reset whenever match isn't going in your favor.


II. Traits

Adept Master Grandmaster

Trait Details

Mental Torment- To increase the damage output on that Mind Wrack for that burst damage.

 

Greatsword Training and Blade Training- added bonuses to reduced cooldowns on skills so you can deal faster burst damage with higher clone output.

 

Deceptive Evasion- More clones = More damage. Also in this build you have high Vigor uptime so you can get more dodges more frequently.

 

Precise Wrack- Any higher crit on your shatter skills is a good thing cause if you dont get a crit hit with a shatter then your damage output suffers greatly.

 

Illusionary Invigoration- This is very handy. You hit half health at any time and you have all your options all over again. You need health, gain distortion, enemy close to dead > Wrack=Rekt

 

Maim the Disillusioned- This skill im using in the place of the normal XI where you gain the shatter effect on yourself. This skill has been my little experiment on seeing how much damage i can get off with torment. Which is not bad damage actually.

    Block the next attack.

    Allows mesmers to evade attacks for some time.

    Increases damage taken by 25%. It typically seen as a mechanic to offset a beneficial effect such as quickness.
  • Frosty Armor
    Chills foes that hit you.
  • Fury
    20% critical chance increase. Stacks in duration.
  • Haste
    Regenerate endurance at 50% effectiveness when under the effects of this skill. It's typically seen as a mechanic to offset a beneficial effect such as quickness.
  • Invulnerability
    Prevents the target from taking damage or receiving conditions. It is also placed on rallied players for one second.
  • Might
    X damage per attack increase. Stacks intensity.
  • Protection
    33% damage reduction. Stacks in duration.
  • Quickening Zephyr
    Prevents healing. It typically seen as a mechanic to offset a beneficial effect such as quickness.
  • Quickness
    Makes all skills and actions 50% faster.
  • Regeneration
    Regenerates X health per second. Stacks in duration.
  • Rejuvenation
    Regenerates health. This effect is exclusive to the guardian profession through the Virtue of Resolve.
  • Resistance
    Resistance temporarily negates the affected target of all effects caused by conditions.
  • Retaliation
    Does X damage to an opponent each time they hit you. Stacks in duration.
  • Smiting
    Causes every fifth attack to apply burning. This effect is exclusive to the guardian profession.
  • Stability
    Cannot be knocked down, pushed back, launched, stunned, dazed, floated, sunk, or feared.
  • Stealth
    Allows the user to be invisible to enemy players and avoid being spotted by enemy NPCs.
  • Swiftness
    33% movement speed increase. Stacks in duration.

    Faster endurance regeneration. Stacks in duration.

Conditions

  • Agony
    Agony is an effect unique to Fractals of the Mists that removes a percentage of the player's health every second and reduces received healing by ~50%.
  • Bleeding
    Bleeding is a stackable condition that deals damage over time.
  • Blind
    Causes the target's next hit to miss instead.
  • Burning
    Inflicts X damage per second. Stacks in duration.
  • Chilled
    Reduces movement speed and skill recharge by 66%. Stacks in duration.
  • Confusion
    Inflicts X damage each time a foe uses skill. Stacks in intensity.

    Crippled is a condition which decreases movement speed by 50%. Stacks in duration.

    Causes the target to run directly away from the caster.

    Inflicts X damage per second. Reduces outgoing heals by 33%. Stacks in duration.
  • Slow
    Slow is a condition that reduces the activation time of skills and abilities.
  • Taunt
    Taunt is a control effect that forces the affected target to run towards the source of taunt with all skills except stun breakers disabled while using their auto-attack skill.
  • Torment
    Deals damage every second; deals additional damage if moving; stacks intensity.
  • Vulnerability
    Increases damage the target takes by 1%. Stacks in intensity.
  • Weakness
    Causes 50% of attacks to be glancing and reduces endurance regeneration by 50%. Stacks in duration.

Control

  • Break Stun
    Stun break is an effect which can break control effects on a character.
  • Daze
    Interrupts and prevents the target from using skills for a period of time.
  • Float
    Forces the affected target(s) to move towards the surface.
  • Knockdown

The condition damage is handy for the Torment proc on all your shatters, which this build has shatter abuse for high torment uptime. The condition damage is lower though, but im debating on trying to form a condition shatter build and seeing how it plays out.

Upgrade Item Details

Runes of the eagle is amazing. Usually with shatter your first burst of damage can take a player to half for sure so after the first burst you are now up 6% damage. Since you have high crit rate I go with fire sigils for the extra burst on flame blast procs and energy sigils because more endurance means more clone output which means more damage. Also i got to go with berserkers amulet for any kind of burst damage build.


V. Basic Gameplay

Most people say shatter is the hardest spec of mesmer to play. But even though its a bit more difficult to use, by far its not hard to use. Below i will give you some handy skill rotations and i will explain each afterwards.
This build has pretty decent survivability because you get dodges very often and you have stealth to boot.

This rotation is done pretty fast so you can get it all done within seconds and end it with a stealth move for a reset.

 

This rotation can easily dismantle a heavy training dummy. Which in a fight you can throw all this pretty easily since most people have difficulty fighting mesmers.

 

Dont be scared to interrupt the rotation with different moves to save your butt. Blink can save you in a crisis situation.

This burst rotation needs to be thrown quickly for a super big shatter with lots and lots of damage. Can insta down the heavy training dummy. This whole combo should be thrown in like 3 seconds maybe 4. Bahahaha. But the damage is super nice.
