Warrior WvW | Large Group Longbow, Greatsword | Assaulter Longbow Berserker Backliner
Table of Contents
Summary
Warriors aren't typically viewed as the "stand in the back nuking people" class, but they certainly are known for their ludicrous damage output.
Longbows slowly becoming more and more popular in PvP, many Warriors have begun to bring them to WvW, too.
Here's my Longbow Berserker Backliner. This build deals absolutely devastating AoE damage and is one of the fastest ways to badge farm in WvW. It is very glass cannon, but the utility and mobility provided is more than enough to save your skin from any pinch!
I. Weapons and Skills
Weapon and Skill Details
Skills:
Healing:
- Healing Surge - You'll be using this more for the adrenaline gain than actual healing if you play smart. But if you do need to blow it, you'll likely have a good adrenaline reserve to boost the power of it.
- Signet of Fury - Pop this at the start of a fight so you can do your rotation. If your longbow burst is off cooldown and you don't have a full adrenaline bar, don't hesitate to pop this to throw it down. If you find yourself having an excess amount of adrenaline, feel free to swap this out for something else and use Healing Surge to start off your combo.
- The rest are optional, but I highly suggest having a form of Stability and Condition Removal. My preferences are displayed above.

Your first two trait choices in Arms are actually completely optional. Take whatever you like! If you find yourself needing to dodge more, try taking Furious Reaction!

Stat and Effect Details
You may be tempted to put some points into Condition Damage, but I assure you it is not worth it in this build. Because Combustion Shot ticks for regular damage every second, you will benefit more from straight Power and Crit Chance than you would with Condition Damage.
Note that with Fury and Critical Burst (Arms 15) this puts combustion shot at over 100% Crit Chance. Feel free to swap out some Precision Pieces if you'd like.

Upgrade Item Details
Runes:
- Ruby Orb - Nothing fancy here, just straight up Power, Critical Damage, and Precision. They're cheap and net you pretty much the best DPS.
Primary Set:
- Longbow - Berserker longbow! I bet you'd never expect to use one of these. While it is harder to aim and easier to dodge than the rifle, the auto-attack will more often than not do double-crits for anywhere between 700 and 1.5k EACH. And these two hits are considered separate attacks so you'll get double the adrenaline (if running arms) and double the chance to hit your procs! Also Stronger Bowstrings gives you a 100% chance to do Projectile Finishers with both arrows.
The combo you can do with this is absolutely devastating. Find a baddie in the middle of his friends (people reviving each other are IDEAL for this) drop a full Combustive Shot on him for a huge fire field and ticking damage. Throw your Arcing Arrow into the field for another large AoE burst, then your Smoldering Arrow to blind him and do additional damage, and finish off with a Fan of Fire. You just tagged a ton of dudes and quite possibly downed a few. If not, then...
Offset:
- Greatsword - Believe it or not this is one of the most defensive offsets you can use. Be sure to take Mobile Strikes and Forceful, because this is the only way you're going to get out of a fight with this build. Ideally, after you've thrown your longbow combo down, if you see a goey center in the zerg, you'll want to Whirling Attack into them, throw down a Hundred Blades, then whirl or Rush out. By the time you get out you should have enough adrenaline to repeat the Longbow burst.
Sigils:
- Sigil of Fire - Have one of these on your Longbow. If you want to save a lot of money, just buy a Major Sigil of Fire instead of Superior. With your tremendous crit chance and constant AoE damage, you will almost always trigger it even at a 20% proc chance.
- Sigil of Bloodlust - This will grant you an extra 250 Power when it's stacked to full. You'll really want one of these on one of your weapons, alongside a duplicate weapon without this sigil. Once it's stacked to full there's no need to keep the sigil equipped unless you get downed.
Consumables:
- Food: Curry Butternut Squash Soup for +100 precision and +10% crit damage.
- Nourishment: Master Maintenance Oil. This'll give you a bit of extra Precision.
V. Basic Gameplay
General Usage:
- This build is meant to wreck clumpy zergs. And it does it very well. It is not, however, meant to keep you from dying. Ever. So play smart.
- Keep your eyes open at all times for the most clumped up area of the zerg. That's where you want to lay your combustion and the rest of your combo down.
- If you see someone go down on the enemy team, focus your AoE on him. More often than not in zerg fights players will rush to the aid of someone downed. Your AoE damage is not only enough to fend off pressure and kill him, but also down several of the people who are trying to res him. Remember all those times you got killed because you couldn't cancel a res on an ally? It happens to them, too!
- Resist the urge to kill or chase one guy, because you won't catch up to him and your single-target DPS isn't good enough to kill him anyway.
- Coordinate your AoE bursts for free badges!
- This build does amazing in wall fights, no matter what side of the wall you're on.
- If you're targeting people on walls, try to build your adrenaline to full before putting damage onto them. People are cowards and will run away very quickly. When your adrenaline is full, hit them with a Pin Down and quickly throw your burst onto them. You'll down them a majority of the time before their immobilize even wears off!
- Remember your Arcing Arrow is a Blast finisher!
