Ranger PvE | Fun Longbow, Greatsword | Damage General PvE / WvW Mobility
Table of Contents
Summary
My most usual build for both PvE and WvW.
It is focused on being extremely mobile; dealing immense damage to your foe/mob and escaping battle quickly. I often swap to Sword/Warhorn, Sword/Dagger, or Axe/Torch as well depending on the situation.
When fighting larger groups of foes, I will switch armour sets to Knight's gear with Runes of Lyssa.

Weapon and Skill Details
Longbow is used very offensively, to bring the enemy's HP as low as possible while you are approaching them, then Greatsword is used to get in your enemy's face and continue this damage. In an ideal situation, the foe will be downed before I even make a full skill rotation.
When I don't need range at all, I will most usually combine Sword/Warhorn with Greatsword for the blast finisher, fury and dps.

Trait Details
I often adjust my Marks and Skirm 20 Traits appropriately (usually IV or VI and VII, respectively) when not using Longbow and will switch Wild 10 to I when roaming and not in threat of combat.

Note that I use Superior Sigil of Bloodlust on my Longbow now, I just haven't found a way to update that yet and haven't been bothered to recreate the build.
V. Basic Gameplay
The best part about this skill and pet combination in my opinion is that it is also extremely capable of dealing great damage, evading damage and escaping from a trouble when necessary. Wolf Fear also provides a second stomp interrupt when downed, which has saved me more often than not.
Although I describe my usual offensive Skill Rotation, Entangle can be used defensively while Point Blank Shot, Lightning Reflexes and Swoop can all be utilized in order to distance yourself from the enemy. The weapon skills provide a couple cripple options and a daze option while all the utility skills are also stun breakers. Signet of Renewal is used only when absolutely necessary, but also to aid allies.
Main Skill Rotation
An ideal situation will permit use of Hunter's Shot (with Stalk Jaguar), Rapid Fire (with Quickening Zephyr) and Point Blank Shot. Once you have exhausted these, I swap to my Greatsword for Swoop (to return to my enemy), Hilt Bash, Entangle, then Maul and Fear (Wolf) to finish them off with Slash/Slice/Stabs. If they get away from Entangle, I use Crippling Throw and then most skills are recharged again.
